VISION FOR MOUNT BUFFALO
ALPINE DESTINATION
COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT  TOURISM
DESTINATION MASTER PLAN     HOTEL DESIGN

DE Atelier architects worked with the Mount Buffalo Destination Advisory Group, including North East Tourism and Alpine Shire, to develop a vision for Mount Buffalo.  The aim was to establish Mount Buffalo as a reinvigorated, year-round alpine destination.  The project looked at all components required to activate, connect and grow the destination through master planning a whole-of-mountain approach.

The vision included concepts for the Gorge and Chalet Village Precinct, including

  • day lodge and café

  • a sky-walk

  • information centre

  • accommodation and function facilities

  • spa and wellness centre

  • hospitality education centre

  • other tourism and hospitality facilities.

Other areas of the mountain were included in the vision including

  • the Gateway to the mountain

  • the Dingo Dell Outdoor Education Centre

  • Cresta Valley Day Lodge and Alpine Centre with associated visitor facilities and café

  • the Lake Catani camping ground.

The vision also considered the practicalities of accessing and servicing the mountain.  Conceptual plans incorporated a transport hub, universal access for visitors and an ‘off-the-grid’ approach to design of services.
