Community, In Studio, Education

The Estuary Heritage Centre project involves the careful adaptation and renovation of an existing heritage structure to support its ongoing use as a cultural and community facility. The design approach prioritises the retention of heritage significance while introducing contemporary interventions that improve functionality, accessibility and environmental performance.

New elements are clearly articulated against the existing fabric, allowing the building’s historical character to remain legible. Internal spaces are reconfigured to support exhibition, education and community use, with improved circulation and amenity for visitors and staff. Material selections and detailing are informed by the existing building, ensuring durability and a respectful architectural dialogue between old and new.

The project demonstrates a sensitive approach to heritage adaptation, extending the life of the building while reinforcing its role as a place of learning, memory and public engagement.
