Housing Choices Australia is a national, not‑for‑profit housing association that delivers safe, high‑quality, and affordable housing for people experiencing housing stress. The brief for this project was to upgrade an existing eight‑unit development to create an accessible, socially cohesive environment that encourages everyday interaction between residents.

The design is organised around a central shared hub that acts as the social heart of the development. Informal landscaping, BBQ facilities, and a communal garden plot provide opportunities for casual encounters and shared activity. Unit entries are oriented toward this shared garden, reinforcing visual connection and a sense of community.

Four of the units were renovated and extended to achieve full accessibility, improving equity and long‑term adaptability. The development also underwent a comprehensive external refresh and interior fit‑out, significantly enhancing amenity, identity, and comfort. The project demonstrates how thoughtful architectural intervention can support inclusion, dignity, and community within a modest residential setting.
